‘We’ll BEAT you!’ EU in unbelievable goading of Trump as it encourages US V EU trade war
BRUSSELS was today overflowing with confidence as Europe prepares itself for an impending trade war with the US, with senior eurocrats telling Donald Trump: “We’re going to win.”

The EU and US appear to be heading for a trade war

Top EU officials expect that a stand-off with America over steel and aluminium imports will grow into a full blown commercial conflict, but feel they are in a strong position to beat the billionaire president.

Europe has convinced itself that it is the new global champion of free trade and that it needs to take Mr Trump down a peg or two over his contentious “America first” policies.

And in an extraordinary admission one former high-flying eurocrat even revealed that EU officials “had quite some fun” the last time they had to confront the US over steel imports, back in 2002.

EU close to TRADE WAR with US: German minister sends Trump warning

His remarks sum up the mood in Brussels, which is one of growing confidence and bravado after the bloc salvaged two key trade deals with America’s neighbour Canada and Japan.

But whilst the EU successfully defeated George W Bush in its last commercial stand-off, back in 2002, it is facing a significantly less predictable opponent in the form of successful businessman Mr Trump.

Eurocrats have been increasingly unnerved and enraged by the tycoon’s policy on international trade, which has recently included slapping sanctions on Russian energy companies that imperil projects within Europe.

He has also vowed to hike import tariffs on metals including steel and aluminium in a bid to fulfil a key election pledge of bringing manufacturing work back to the rust belt states.

The EU currently provides around 14 per cent of the total US steel imports and eurocrats are so convinced the president will go through with his threat they have drawn up a retaliation hit list.

One senior EU diplomat told Politico the Republican has “got to do something now” to make good on his rhetoric, but warned Mr Trump the result of any trade war was a foregone conclusion: “We are going to win.”

Another added to the website: “There’s a feeling of pride that we are the ones standing up for international rule of law. The EU is able to assert itself and take on the US as an equal.”
EU trade chief insists bloc ‘will respond’ US steel threats

We are going to win

EU diplomat

Major US exports including bourbon whiskies from the Deep South and Orange juice from Florida have been placed on an EU watchlist, and the bloc will slap retaliatory tariffs on them as soon as the White House acts.

Pierre Defraigne, who was chief of staff to former European Commissioner for Trade Pascal Lamy, recalled how eurocrats won the last trade stand-off with Mr Bush in 2002.

He told Politico: “The Directorate General for Trade [in the EU] is perfectly equipped for that [a trade war], and they love it. We had quite some fun.

“We targeted the orange juice from Florida, where George W. Bush’s brother was governor. It’s one of those cases where you are sure to win. The American actions are completely outside World Trade Organization rules.”

This week Mr Trump said plans for a hike on steel import tariffs may have to be temporarily put on hold, but vowed he will “address steel dumping,” because it is “a very unfair situation”.

China is largely responsible for the dumping of steel – selling the metal on the global markets at below production value – which has caused large redundancies in metalworking industries in the West.

But any retaliatory measures imposed by the US will have to apply to all imports, meaning European manufacturers would also be subject to sky-high tariffs on their products.

EU leaders have reacted bullishly to the threats, with EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker saying the bloc is ready to hit back within days and vowing: “America First cannot mean that Europe’s interests come last.”

The top eurocrat said his team of officials were in “elevated battle mood” over the situation, underscoring the sense of confidence Europe now feels to take on one of its biggest allies and win.

And the German foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel said Mr Trump’s actions were unacceptable and would have consequences, insisting: “We Europeans will not put up with this.”

The USA has much more experience and a battle fleet to enforce it. A rerun of the Boston Tea Party with German limos being used to line the bottoms of American ports can be expected. Maybe they can be used to build the Mexican border wall.

The history of European trade wars with the USA is littered with examples of white flags being raised – all on the European side. It is something they have a monopoly trade in.

Well this isn’t going to end well for the EU. There’s only one country in EU that’s anywhere near on par with US and that’s Germany.

If US targets Germany for high tariffs which I think they will the EU is stuffed.

The EU think they are the free trade utopia of the world but they are anything but. Protectionism runs through all the EU bureaucrats blood and it will be their destruction.

Not wise to take on the worlds superpower when you have no army 🙂

The EU bureaucrats get more deluded every day let’s get shefield producing again so we can have free trade with the US and provide the 14% instead of the EU who will have large tariffs imposed.

EU on par with the USA? I don’t think so!! The EU have that many problems caused by the dictators, that they couldn’t win anything! The UK could export metals to the USA, which will bring life back to our steel mills! I’m 100% behind Trump and the US, Let’s leave all EU products on the shop shelf! Buy British, and start importing from the US! The countries making up the EU will start infighting amongst themselves! EU = R.I.P !!

Perhaps Juncker and company should read Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem “The Masque of Pandora” “Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad”

All trump has to do is release a statement urging all Americans and US businesses who currently import ANYTHING from the EU, to start making alternative arrangements from outside the bloc, giving a strong hint at the UK being a very good alternative.

Then stress that the EU have openly and in the most public of ways declared a trade war against the USA, they have totally disrespected their ties with the USA, they have openly declared their superiority to the USA and they are at the start of assembling a huge military that will be controlled by Germany in conflict with NATO interests.

I am sure the US public will stand up and get behind trump on this one…. The EU will then start cacking themselves and will be filled with regret and remorse and become the global laughing stock that they truly are.

The USA will simply turn to the UK to fill the gaps on anything exported to the US from the EU bloc, not only would it be crippling to the EU, but also a HUGE slap in the face who are hell bent on seeing the UK suffer.

Starting with metals exports, if the UK can pick up all that trade, it will totally revive our metals industry…. and that’s just the start.

In fact if we can dump all this regulation slapped on us by the EU, it will make our products much cheaper and much more efficient than the EU.

The EU is going to drown in its own bile…. It is FINISHED.

Oh, and if the EU get too confident, a simple US resolution slapping 200% import duties on EU built cars will pretty much be the end of German and french car manufacturing.
